Children gathered in the Gering Public Library on Thursday, June 16, to learn all about the power of sound waves. The library’s summer reading program hosted representatives Nicole Havlik and Journey Noyes from the Edgerton Explorit Center in Aurora. Around 20 children and their parents or guardians attended the event. “Sometimes we think science has to be this bigger thing, but there’s a lot of simple, fun things that we can do,” Havlik said.

Students at Educational Service Unit 13’s Meridian School in Scottsbluff got to be amateur firefighters Wednesday. Four Scottsbluff Fire Department firefighters visited the school to teach students all about water and let them try spraying a fire hose. “We want them to learn the importance of water … when it comes to their body, the importance of conservation, also safety, like if there’s something happening at home, how to get out,” Irma Rios, the lead teacher at the Meridian School, said.

Initially, co-owner Joe Margheim wasn’t sure if he wanted the Flyover Brewery to serve food. “I just wanted stuff that was easy to do with a limited kitchen and went well with beer, like pizza and wings,” Margheim said. “And we wanted to do pizza a little bit different than the other pizza places, so we went with the wood-fired Neapolitan pizza ovens.” Everything from chicken wings to sandwiches is cooked on those ovens, which Margheim said makes the brewery a more unique dining establishment.

Share An Amazon delivery station is planned to open in Scott City later this year. On Thursday, Feb. 13, municipal officials announced the creation of a 61,000-square-foot Amazon facility. It will be the first site to open at the SEMO Industrial Park along Interstate 55 and is expected to create 70 new jobs.
