Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said on X the city has entered a federal consent decree after 10 months of negotiations with the United States Department of Justice. The document lays out a roadmap for policing reform that the city is required to complete. The agreement will be overseen by federal judge Benjamin Beaton and an independent monitor.

The Arthur Street Hotel helps people transition from living on the streets to moving into permanent housing. A federal jury found former Louisville police detective Brett Hankison guilty of depriving Breonna Taylor of her civil rights during a raid of her home on March 13, 2020. It is the only conviction to date of an officer who participated in executing the search warrant, which was later shown to be based on faulty information. The verdict came hours after jurors indicated they were deadlocked on this charge, one of two first brought by the United States Department of Justice in mid-2022.

Louisville interim Police Chief Paul Humphrey said officers responded to an “unknown active trouble” call around 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the 6600 block of Eagle Wood Drive. Humphrey said officers encountered an agitated man inside a home with his family. Officers began a dialogue. He said the man, whom he identified as Hispanic, left the home and approached officers with a knife. Police told the man to drop the knife but he didn’t, so they used Tasers before shooting him, Humphrey said.

Local lawmakers are expected to discuss matters ranging from zoning issues to Louisville’s planned Department of Transportation. There are nearly a dozen committee meetings scheduled this week. Members of the Planning and Zoning Committee, which meets Tuesday at 1 p.m., are slated to discuss zoning regulations for medical marijuana facilities in Louisville.
