Former Victorian Liberal leader John Pesutto will avoid bankruptcy after the party agreed to provide him a $1.55 million loan. Mr Pesutto was ordered to pay fellow Liberal MP Moira Deeming $2.3 million in legal costs after she successfully sued him for defamation. He was unable to pay the debt but has been seeking donations to avoid bankruptcy and be kicked out of parliament.

A proposed gas storage terminal off the coast of Geelong with capacity to supply most of Victoria is closer to being built following approval by the state government. The Viva Energy Gas Import Terminal Project is designed to shore up the state's gas supply before a forecast shortfall by 2029. The project would consist of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage ship docked in Corio Bay off Refinery Pier, and 7 kilometres of new pipeline to link up to the existing gas network.

Liberal MP Moira Deeming says she will pursue senior Victorian Liberal figures to help recover $2.3 million in legal costs if John Pesutto cannot pay. Ms Deeming successfully sued the former Victorian Liberal leader for defamation after he moved to expel her from the party room in 2023 after she attended an anti-trans-rights rally that was gatecrashed by Neo-Nazis. Earlier this month, Mr Pesutto was ordered to pay more than $2.3 million in costs to Ms Deeming.

Police have shot and killed a woman who drove a car at officers as they attempted to arrest a man allegedly wielding a machete. Acting Assistant Commissioner Therese Fitzgerald said one officer was struck by the car during the attempted arrest on Cecil Street in South Melbourne after 5pm. The officer fired four shots at the woman and she died at the scene. A 26-year-old male passenger received gunshot wounds to his leg and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Teal candidate Zoe Daniel has called for a recount in the Melbourne electorate of Goldstein after a full preference count went to the Liberal Party's Tim Wilson by 260 votes. The Australian Electoral Commission finalised its federal election count in the inner-city seat on Saturday with a full distribution of preferences. "The full distribution of preferences in Goldstein (VIC) finalised today," the AEC said via social media site X. "The margin is 260 in favour of the Liberal Party candidate.
