Mr Pesutto was ordered to pay fellow Liberal MP Moira Deeming $2.3 million in legal costs after she successfully sued him for defamation. He was unable to pay the debt but has been seeking donations to avoid bankruptcy and be kicked out of parliament.

The United Firefighters Union is stuck in a protracted industrial dispute with FRV and the Allan government over pay and conditions. The retrospective legislation seeks to overcome a 2024 High Court ruling that the Ballarat Catholic Diocese could not be held liable for the abuse of notorious paedophile priest Bryan Coffey because he was not a church employee.

    A council in Melbourne's outer west has been criticised for pledging to spend money paid by developers for infrastructure in Point Cook elsewhere. Some of Point Cook's 70,000 residents said their area lacked basic infrastructure and amenities in a growing region. A petition to state parliament has called on the City of Wyndham to reallocate funding towards in Point Cook infrastructure.

    Victorian Liberal MP Moira Deeming has offered to delay bankruptcy proceedings against former opposition leader John Pesutto if the party bypasses its rules and guarantees her preselection for next year's state election. Mr Pesutto tried to expel Ms Deeming, an outspoken first-term MP, over her attendance at an anti-trans-right rally in March 2023. The event, entitled Let Women Speak and categorised by supporters as a women's rights event, was gatecrashed by neo-Nazis.

Vic's Attorney-General has told caucus on #springst this morning that the Gov will introduce retrospective vicarious liability laws by the end of 2025 in a bid to overcome a High Court ruling that has crushed many victims of church abuse.
