We wanted to settle the debate once and for all: What makes a supper club a supper club? Wisconsinites have strong feelings about all that is required to authenticate this regional dining experience. So Madison Magazine created a poll with 28 suggested supper club essentials and asked respondents to check all that applied. More than 1,000 people participated and presented 163 more requirements and/or comments.

Martha Stewart might not have voted for Madison chef Sean Pharr's cassoulet, but it was still the crowd favorite among 300 attendees on Feb. 3 at the 2025 Cassoulet War, hosted by D'Artagnan and held in New York City. Pharr, chef and co-owner of Mint Mark, competed alongside 50 other chefs making up 25 teams in a competition that brings some of the country's most talented chefs into the same room to see who can make the best cassoulet.
