SANDY — With Red Flag warnings in effect across most of Utah and with hot, breezy and extremely dry conditions persisting across much of the Salt Lake Valley, firefighters on Thursday were urging caution in hopes of avoiding fire starts. The grasses and brush around the Wrangler trailhead at Dimple Dell Regional Park were particularly dry, and Sandy City Fire Department Deputy Chief Mike Bullock said even a small fire could become a large one in a matter of minutes.

OREM — Police, firefighters and medics converged Tuesday on the campus of Utah Valley University as they responded to a bomb threat and explosion scenario at the UCCU Center. Robin Ebmeyer, UVU Director of Emergency Management and Safety, said bomb threats and detonations have been on the rise across the country, fueling a desire to train for that type of situation. “Our main focus as law enforcement the last few years have been active shooters,” said Utah Valley University Police Chief Jeff Long.

SANDY — Sandy police said traffic accidents so far in 2025 are down 21% compared to the 10-year average and that the city is at an all-time low for crashes. Data furnished by Sandy City shows 473 traffic accidents from January to April, compared to the 10-year average of 596 crashes. "We are at an all-time low now," said Sandy Police Sgt. Greg Moffitt. "Twenty-one percent (under) the previous 10-year average.
