North Platte’s comeback effort in the second game of a doubleheader came up short as the Bulldogs baseball team lost twice to Grand Island on Friday at home. North Platte fell 13-3 in six innings in the first game and 9-7 in the second game. Grand Island 13, North Platte 3Landon Greeno and Connor Stiffler each had two hits and drove in a run, but the Bulldogs still fell 13-3 in six innings in the first game of a doubleheader against Grand Island.

SUTHERLAND — Perkins County’s Mason McGreer has his sights set on not only defending his two state championships in the Class C 1,600- and 3,200-meter races, but he also winning the 800-meter race and the 4x800 relay. The North Platte Community College softball team lost a home doubleheader to Northeastern Junior College 16-0 and 7-3 on Wednesday. In the first game, Sheena Smith tossed two innings and gave up nine runs — eight earned — on four hits and three walks with a strikeout. Alieze Moreno tossed the next 1 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs — two earned — on four hits and three walks while striking out one. Callie Klemenz then tossed the last 1 2/3 innings without giving up a run or a hit.

The North Platte track and field teams hosted the Buffalo Bill Invite on Monday, and some local athletes put on some strong performances at this early-season event. For the boys, a few Telegraph-area athletes finished top 5 in their respective events, including some who came in first. North Platte’s Jahven Reyes won the boys 100-meter dash with a time of 11.29 seconds.

The North Platte baseball team gave up eight runs in the seventh inning as the Bulldogs lost to Norfolk 13-12 in the first game of a home triangular on Saturday in North Platte. “The first game against Norfolk, we kind of dug ourselves a hole early on, and I was really proud of the boys for battling back,” North Platte coach Ricky Holm said. “Strung a couple of big innings together there.
