McKINLEYVILLE – The McKinleyville Municipal Advisory Committee has reached an agreement on three out of four proposals for a temporary project to slow traffic on Hiller Road. At its May 28 meeting, the committee voted unanimously in favor of a Humboldt County Public Works proposal to do a “quick build” project on Hiller Road between Central Avenue and McKinleyville Avenue.

McKINLEYVILLE – Over the past five years, the McKinleyville Municipal Advisory Committee has held more than 40 public meetings to talk about the McKinleyville Town Center. These have included town hall meetings with pizza, workshops, updates at regularly scheduled monthly meetings and even a joint meeting the McKinleyville Community Services District. Notices of all these meetings were posted on bulletin boards, on social media, websites and in various local news outlets.

HUMBOLDT – A mama bear and her cub journeyed through Eureka, Arcata and Manila over the last two weeks and were roaming around the Samoa Peninsula area as of Friday afternoon, June 21. It’s not unusual for bears to wander into urban areas in Humboldt, but they usually don’t stay long, nor create such a splash on social media like these two brown bears. “It’s quite a saga,” said Peter Tira, an information officer with the Department of Fish & Wildlife (DFW).

McKINLEYVILLE – In November, Humboldt County voters may decide whether to increase the local sales tax to help repair the county’s crumbling road system. Before the Board of Supervisors decides whether to place a sales tax measure on the ballot, the county is attempting to educate the public about the state of its roads and is soliciting public input.
