BATH, N.Y. (WENY) - Thanks to a $2,000 grant from Wegmans, senior residents in Steuben County will have an easy method to quickly provide emergency medical information during a crisis. According to Steuben County officials, the money will be spent on a health file, or file of life project, which is placed inside a waterproof folder and then stored in the resident's freezer. In case of an emergency, a sticker on the refrigerator door alerts emergency responders to the folder's location.
Elmira Heights Police Investigating Car Break Ins

ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WENY) - Elmira Heights police is asking the public's help in their investigation of recently reported vehicle break ins. According to EHPD, the break ins took place sometime between 3 and 6 Tuesday morning on the west side of the village from Robinwood to Parkwood Avenues. Police said there were reported break ins between West 12th and West 17th streets. Police also said the thieves went through consoles and glove boxes for anything of value.
Cayuta Man Dies From Motorcycle Accident in Veteran

VETERAN, N.Y. (WENY) - A Cayuta man died as a result of a motorcycle accident in the town of Veteran. On Thursday morning, New York State troopers responded to a report of a motorcycle accident on Smith Road in the town of Veteran. Troopers say 45 year old Patrick Hess of Cayuta was driving a Honda motorcycle when he hit a deer causing him to leave the south side of the roadway into the ditch. Troopers say a passer-by noticed the accident scene at around 7:30 a.m. and contacted emergency crews.
Hornell Police Department Conducting Death Investigation

HORNELL, N.Y. (WENY) - Police are investigating a death of a woman found at a home in Hornell. According to the Hornell Police Department, the body was found at a home on East Main Street at around 12:53 AM Tuesday. Police say the body was identified as 20 year old Alexis Watson. Police say Watson's last known address was John St. in Hornell and that Watson had recently been reported missing from Greece, N.Y. Her body has been sent to the Medical Examiner's office in Binghamton for an autopsy.
Upcoming Partial Rod Closure in Jackson Township

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, P.A. (WENY) - A pipe replacement project will close parts of a road in Tioga County (PA) beginning next week. According to the Pennsylvania DOT, Baker Road in Jackson Township will be closed between Hill Road and Jennings Road from August 21st through the 30th due to pipe replacements. The DOT says a detour using Jennings Road, Hamilton Road, and Route 549 in Bradford and Tioga counties will be in place for the duration of the project. Work will be done during daytime hours.
204th Steuben County Fair Opens

BATH, N.Y. (WENY) - The longest running county fair in the U.S. opened Monday. This year marks the 204th annual Steuben County fair in Bath and will run through Sunday, August 20th. This year's fair features harness racing, a demolition derby, a rodeo, a monster truck show, and a truck and tractor pull. Admission is $5 with free admission for children under five. For grandstand tickets, reserve seating is $20 with general seating at $15 dollars for all grandstand events.
Bath Man Arrested For Allegedly Dragging a Puppy

BATH, N.Y. (WENY) - Authorities arrested a Steuben County man stemming from an incident involving alleged animal cruelty. The Steuben County Sheriff's Office said 31 year old Jamie Gould of Bath was arrested on Friday in response to a report of a man dragging a puppy in Bath. Deputies say Gould intentionally injured a puppy in his care. Gould was charged with Torturing or Injuring an Animal and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Gould was arraigned in court and released.
