Elkhart County, Indiana, was particularly hard hit, with 60 fatalities and catastrophic damage. President Lyndon B. Johnson visited the devastated area and pledged federal support for the victims. SOUTH BEND — The Philanthropy Committee of Indiana University South Bend will hold its annual benefit dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. April 9 at the University Grill in the Administration Building, 1700 Mishawaka Ave. This year’s beneficiary is Global Survivors for Peace Inc., a local non-profit organization dedicated to assisting survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
