Rafael Morton will be honored with the African American Legacy Award from The History Museum at its Juneteenth Reception on June 10. Morton started a term this year on the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners after having served on the county council since 1992, including multiple years as council president. St. Joseph County’s Board of Commissioners has hired a law firm to represent the county as it opposes the City of Mishawaka’s interest in providing water and sewer services to the yet-to-be-built Microsoft data center just beyond the city’s current limits. The commissioners voted 2-0 on Tuesday, May 6, to hire the Indianapolis firm Parr Richey. Commissioners Carl Baxmeyer and Tony Hazen voted, with Rafael Morton absent.
