The Banner-Herald has compiled an alphabetical list of five local restaurants open on Cinco de Mayo. DanceFX, an Athens-based dance education nonprofit, will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a spring concert. The concert, "25 Years Together," will be held at UGA's Fine Arts Theatre on May 3 with two showtimes. Founded in 2000, DanceFX has grown to include locations in Atlanta and Charleston, impacting the community through performances and outreach programs. The Varsity, a Georgia-based fast-food chain, opened a new location in Watkinsville, near Athens. The new location is smaller than the previous Athens Varsity, which closed in 2021. The menu features classic items like hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, and frosted orange. Despite a long drive-thru line, service is fast. Remember how excited everyone got when Whataburger opened three restaurants in Athens? Imagine if there had been three Varsity locations instead.
