Live music lovers can expect bigger acts and better amenities under a plan to expand and renovate Red Hat Amphitheater. But that's only if city leaders agree to close a portion of a downtown street. The Red Hat Amphitheater, bordered by Cabarrus, McDowell, Lenoir and Dawson streets, was always meant to be a temporary outdoor stadium to help draw people to downtown. But the venue has carved out a niche in the heart of music fans and performers, forcing the city to keep it downtown.

City leaders approved Raleigh's $1.43 billion budget with raises for city workers, fares back on city buses and higher tax bills for many homeowners. "As a council we've done a lot of work in trying to move things forward," Council member Corey Branch said during a budget work session Monday. "I think this budget probably accomplishes a lot But there's still, as we have had conversations today, more work to be done. But we still have a plan.

Five construction workers were injured when a deck collapsed at a construction site Monday. The five people were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the back deck collapsed at a new construction site in the 4100 block of Rockingham Drive, near North Hills. Eighteen firefighters responded to the scene, according to Jamie Cheveralls, spokesperson for the Raleigh Fire Department.
