ELLENSBURG — More than a century of student journalism is on the line. The Observer, Central Washington University’s 110-year old student newspaper, requested between $36,000 and $56,000 from the Services and Activities Committee and instead received a proposed $1,100. “The money they gave us isn’t even a budget cut,” said co-editor-in-chief Brandon Mattesich. “It’s practically a death sentence.”The committee forwards recommendations to CWU's Board of Trustees for funding from student fees.

ELLENSBURG — Central Washington University is discontinuing its varsity men’s and women’s rugby programs at the end of the academic year. “This was a very difficult decision, and the news is incredibly disappointing for our rugby student-athletes, coaches, and our department as a whole,” said Athletic Director Dennis Francois. CWU officials said the budget decision was tied to lower enrollment, state funding reductions and increased expenses. The decision will affect 75 student-athletes.

By ANNA ROSE staff writer Ellensburg city councilmembers tossed around the idea of recording commission meetings at its last study session, a meeting focused on addressed how citizens are engaging with the city's media. Currently, the city only records council meetings. Commissions, committees and subcommittees meet throughout the week and while the meetings are open to the public and minutes are taken, there are no audio or video records.
