The Glinsk Viaduct and Drung Hill tunnels in South Kerry, one of the rail engineering wonders of the Victorian era and the jewel in the crown of the long awaited South Kerry greenway, is proving "challenging" to turn into a cycleway, a meeting has heard. “The pace” of the 32km paved greenway project between Glenbeigh and Cahersiveeen, unveiled as a template for all other greenways in June 2014 and billed to open in 2016, was raised at a meeting of the Kenmare Municipal District.

Kenmare in Co Kerry is facing “an east coast scenario” where house building is "stifled" by a lack of water supply, a meeting of the local authority has heard. A €25m waste water treatment plant is nearing completion for the town, but Kenmare Municipal District has been told the heritage town is now running out of water. During the recent dry spell, Kenmare's water supply was one of 22 locations nationally declared to be in drought status.

Shannon LNG has “reactivated” its €650m plans for a Shannon Technology and Energy Park to An Bord Pleanála, in what is the latest twist in a two-decade attempt to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in north Kerry. The application by Shannon LNG, a subsidiary of the American New Fortress Energy Inc, for the energy park on the 630-acre site on the Shannon estuary between Tarbert and Ballylongford were lodged in 2021. They were refused by An Bord Pleanála in October 2023.

The board of Kerry Airport has rejected a call by Kerry County Council to rename the county‚Äôs international gateway as ‚ÄúThe Daniel O‚ÄôConnell Airport‚ÄĚ to coincide with the 250th birthday of the Liberator. However, Kerry's widest street could be in line for a name change. The call was made by Killarney councillor John O‚ÄôDonoghue to mark O‚ÄôConnell‚Äôs birthday on August 6.

The world "cannot afford" a trade war, Taoiseach Miche√°l Martin has said as Donald Trump's latest u-turn on tariffs was welcomed in Europe. The announcement today from the US president that a 50% tariff on goods from the EU will be delayed follows contact with European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen as well as the discussions on Friday between Commissioner MaroҰ ҆efńćovińć and his US counterparts. In April, Mr Trump announced a 20% tariff on EU goods being sold into the US.
