FARGO — City of Fargo staff want to remind residents about a utility bill increase that went into effect at the beginning of the year. Starting Jan. 1, utility bills increased by $10 each month. Regional rates also went up. Assistant City Administrator Brenda Derrig said the increase resulted from budget discussions at an informational meeting last July between city commissioners and leaders of different utilities in the city.

PERHAM, Minn. — A Perham photographer is hoping to inspire creativity in local kids this summer — one camera at a time. Annalee Beaver, a professional photographer specializing in weddings and family portraits, is launching a photography program for children ages 9 to 18 at the Perham Area Community Center. Beaver said the class will cover camera mechanics, lighting and different photography styles, culminating in a student photo exhibition.

FARGO — Cardiac rehab sites across the region are stepping up to raise awareness for heart disease with an annual treadmill challenge. In honor of Cardiac Rehab Week, six regional cardiac rehab facilities are competing to see who can log the most miles in a 10-hour window each day. Starting at 6 a.m., staff and patients take turns running, jogging or walking for 10-minute intervals to promote heart-healthy habits.

FARGO — Fargo area surgeons are encouraging residents to give their hearts some love ahead of Valentine’s Day. Staff with Essentia Health have created a free online heart health assessment tool that helps determine if users are at risk for heart disease or a heart attack. The assessment asks questions about lifestyle, health and family history. At the end, participants receive a summary indicating whether they need to see a provider or change their lifestyle habits.

FARGO – A local home health care service is working to combat loneliness among senior citizens ahead of Valentine’s Day. On Wednesday, Senior Helpers of Fargo delivered nearly 200 Valentine’s Day cards to seniors as part of the second annual "Dear Senior Valentine’s Day Card Drive." Roald and Janet Lund, longtime residents at Touchmark at Harwood Groves in Fargo, have always celebrated Valentine’s Day with a special dinner.
