Bjorn Center for Career and Technical Education to welcome Mt. Blue Middle School students this fall

FARMINGTON – Thanks to the hard work of a number of folks, along with a very generous donation from Dick Bjorn and the Bjorn Foundation, the Bjorn Center for Career and Technical Education is nearly complete and will be ready for students this fall. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Tuesday. The Bjorn Center for Career and Technical Education is only the second CTE center in the state that is designed for middle school students, Gov. Mills said in her remarks at the ceremony.
MBTV show Talkin’ Maine to air final episode on Sunday, June 23

FARMINGTON – After nearly two decades, the popular program “Talkin’ Maine” hosted by Mount Blue Community Access TV will air the final episode of the series on Sunday, June 23, at 6 p.m.For the final episode, host Tom Saviello is joined by special guest Chandler Woodcock, his co-host when the show first aired. Talkin’ Maine began in early 2007 and was called “Talkin’ Maine with the Bowtie Boys.” Saviello and Woodcock filmed over 100 episodes together.
MSAD 58 board approves proposed teacher contract

PHILLIPS – Thursday night, the MSAD 58 School Board voted, 10 to 1 with some members absent, to ratify the contract between the Mt. Abram Teachers’ Association and the school district. This contract has been under confidential negotiations, however, when the contract was presented to members of the association for review, that confidentiality was breached.

WILTON – At The Studio, a locally-owned gym in downtown Wilton, the approach to health and wellness is both passionate and compassionate. The Studio offers programs with three different trainers, and a new expansion will open up a 24-hour gym for independent workouts. The Studio is owned by Cyra Merrill, who opened the gym in 2017 in a small space just over 400 square feet.
Carrabassett Valley hires new town manager

CARRABASSETT VALLEY – The Carrabassett Valley selectboard unanimously approved the hire of Garrett Corbin as the new town manager. Town Manager Dave Cota, who has served in that capacity for the last twenty-four years, will retire in June. Carrabassett Valley, which is the ‘youngest’ town in Franklin County, having been incorporated in 1972, is home to Sugarloaf Mountain. The select board took the unique town and community into consideration in the process of hiring a new town manager.

Cascade Brook students win regional and honorable mention awards in national STEM competition

FARMINGTON – “Saving time saves lives!” Seven bright young minds were recognized for their inventions in a special assembly at the Cascade Brook School in Farmington on Thursday. These students participated in ExploraVision, hosted by Toshiba and the National Science Teaching Association. ExploraVision is the largest competition in the world which focuses on STEM – science, technology, engineering, and mathematics – for students in grades K-12.
MSAD 58 board adopts budget amid concerns of increased taxes

SALEM TOWNSHIP – The MSAD 58 school board passed a budget, 8 to 3, in their meeting Monday night. The board meeting lasted a little over an hour, during which the board reviewed recommendations from Superintendent Laura Columbia and the administrative team. In the previous meeting the board voted to not change a computer technician position to a tech integrator position, saving approximately $14,000.
