Ryker Paradis of Lewiston was honored Wednesday as Gatorade Maine boys track athlete of the year after a season in which he won the shot put and finished third in the discus at the New England high school championships. Paradis, a senior, won both of those events at the Class A state meet and placed third in the javelin. He ranked 33rd in the nation this spring in the shot put with a best of 63 feet, 10 inches.

No.The Maine Legislature recently considered — but ultimately backed away from — a move to partly decriminalize mushrooms containing the psychedelic compound psilocybin, often called magic mushrooms. The bill, LD 1034, sponsored by Rep. Grayson Lookner, D-Portland, would have decriminalized the possession of 1 ounce or less of psilocybin for people 21 or older. Decriminalization removes criminal penalties but doesn’t make a substance legal to possess or sell.
