The Joplin Eagles Television program at Joplin High School, better known as JetHD, prides itself on teaching students the ins and outs of broadcasting. One foreign exchange student in the program is from Tajikistan, a nation in Central Asia bordering China.

MCDONALD COUNTY, Mo. (KOAM) - The final of six storm shelters in McDonald County has cut the ribbon and will now be used to help keep students and the surrounding community safe during severe weather. Almost three years after voters in McDonald County voted to pass a $21.5 million bond issue that would fund six brand new storm shelters in the county, the last one has been complete. "Our voters here and our people that live here, they believe in our school system and they want to be safe.

CARTHAGE, Mo (KOAM) - Those attending the Marian Days festivities are finding ways to stay safe and cool during the weekend festivities. Marian days begins August 1 and will continue through August 4. Forecasts show some extreme heat in the area while festivities go on. Those who have already made their way to Marian Days have found shaded places to keep themselves cool. Anthony Nguyen who travelled from Colorado says that despite the heat, it's worth it to be around people who share his culture.

PITTSBURG, Kan (KOAM) - The city of Pittsburg has granted $80,000 to a local business to help expand and renovate a new location. Formerly known as Spicer-Adams Welding, the now rundown building will be purchased and renovated by Blue Spoon Properties LLC. This project involves converting the old building into a speakeasy bar with outdoor seating, a performance area, and space for food trucks.
