FORT SCOTT, Kans. — A Southeast Kansas fire department now has more life-saving equipment — and today, got to use it. “The hardest task on the fire grounds is removing victims from house fires,” said Kristian Lockridg, firefighter with the Kansas City Fire Department. JOPLIN, Mo. — A fire broke out Wednesday in one of the dormitories at Missouri Southern State University, located next to the Criminal Justice building on Newman Road. Firefighters responded to the scene around 12:30 p.m. with multiple ladder trucks. In an effort to contain the fire, they broke through a number of walls in the building to ensure the fire was extinguished and had not spread. The fire was sparked when a contractor doing electrical work hit live electrical lines.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kans. — Recently, it came to light that the name of Empire City Marshal Marion Thomas, along with his service and sacrifice to the community, was missing from the etched marble walls of the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C.
