Mayo Minister Dara Calleary has come under pressure from a Fine Gael councillor to resolve a planning row which has stymied the development of an industrial park in Ballina. The development of a proposed IDA Ballina Business and Technology Park on the Sligo Road in Ballina has been indefinitely delayed after Transport Infrastructure Ireland objected in 2022 to the construction of a new access junction from the site onto the N59 at Quignashee, approximately 2.7km from Ballina.

AN Bord Pleanála has granted planning permission for a new veterinary clinic in west Mayo despite a recommendation by its own inspector to refuse planning. Planning permission was granted to Westport vet Tom Fabby to construct a single storey veterinary clinic at Carrabaun, Westport despite concerns that its proximity to the N59 Leenane Road would result in it becoming a traffic hazard.

A SENIOR Executive in Mayo County Council says she believes that Mayo will have enough land zoned for housing to deliver any new housing targets to be set down by the Government. The Government recently approved the revised National Planning Framework which will set out how the country’s housing growth is managed from now until 2040.

A senior official in Mayo County Council has suggested that groups who use slipways and piers on a regular basis should take responsibility to remove algae from them. A number of slipways along the north Mayo coast were described as 'chronic' and 'dangerous' by local councillors at the monthly meeting of the Ballina Municipal District where there was a call for a schedule of works to be undertaken to clean slipways on a regular basis.

A MAYO Fine Gael councillor has called for a planning regulation which permits the construction of accommodation centres for refugees without planning permission to be immediately revoked. Planning regulations which were introduced in 2022 to fast-track accommodation for refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine remain in place despite the fact they were only meant to be in place for one year.
