A Mayo minister has been accused of 'parroting industry misinformation' following Dáil comments regarding the introduction of alcohol health information labelling. Mayo TD and Minister of State Alan Dillon was one of a number of Fine Gael TDs who recently suggested the introduction of alcohol labelling may be delayed because of the possible impact of US tariffs on the global trade environment.

A GO Fund me page set up to help repatriate the body of a Latvian man who died in a road traffic accident in south Mayo has raised over €10,000 in less than 24 hours. Father of one, Bruno Smits who was aged in his 40s was killed in a motorcycle accident along the Claremorris Road in Ballinrobe at approximately 7.40pm on Tuesday, June 17. Mr Smits was pronounced dead at the scene before his body was brought to Mayo University Hospital for a post mortem.

An Bord Pleanála has refused planning permission for a 92 unit housing development in north Mayo after ruling that the proposed development would not follow a 'concentric settlement pattern'. Earlier this year, Mayo County Council granted planning permission for a mixed unit development located to the rear of the existing Friarscourt housing development on the Killala Road in Ballina.

Four offshore islands in Mayo will see significant improvement works to its infrastructure after funding of €99,000 was approved for essential minor capital works. Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, has today announced €828,000 for capital works on Ireland's offshore islands with €99,000 allocated for works on four Clew Bay islands - Clare Island, Inishturk, Inishlyre Island and Clynish Island - as well as repair works to Roonagh Pier.

Summer is to make a welcome return to Mayo tomorrow with temperatures expected to rise to a high of 25 degrees Celsius tomorrow afternoon. Mayo is expected to be one of the hottest counties in Ireland over the next few days with the mercury expected to reach 25 degrees Celsius in the south of the county on Thursday afternoon.
