The proposed development of a €15 million Mayo GAA Centre of Excellence and other sporting facilities on land at Bohola is the foresight the county needs according to a local councillor. Lands gifted by Bohola native and UK-based developer, Bill Durkan close to the east Mayo village are proposed to become the Mayo GAA Centre of Excellence while Mayo LGFA also propose to locate their training facilities there after agreeing a partnership and a licence agreement with Durkan Bohola Community Park.

THE erection of solar panels on the front of an old 19th century Church of Ireland church in Achill was described as 'incongruous' by an An Bord Pleanala inspector. An Bord Pleanála upheld a decision by Mayo County Council not to grant retention of solar panels on the front elevation of the former Holy Trinity Church in Achill, which has been renovated into a dwelling house. The solar panels are 31 square metres in size and encompass most of the front elevation of the building.

Over 17,000 applications for humanitarian assistance were made by Mayo people to the Department of Social Protection in the aftermath of Storm Éowyn. Mayo was one of the worst hit counties when Storm Éowyn struck the country at the end of January and this is reflected in new figures outlining the number of applications made for the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme (HAS).

AN Achill community have warned that they may close part of the Great Western Greenway if Mayo County Council fails to honour an agreement to fund a community project. The community of Sáile on Achill Island have called on Mayo County Council to provide funding for a shelter and community building on the grounds of Sáile National School which they say was agreed in a meeting with council officials in August 2023.

There was great sadness in Achill over the weekend when word reached the parish of the death in the USA of Annie Murphy, who was in her 107th year. Annie Murphy, who was born in Pollagh in Achill in 1918, passed away on Friday, May 30 surrounded by her family in Berea, Ohio, USA.
