FOCUS Ireland have launched an urgent donation appeal as over 2,000 families are set to spend the festive season in emergency accommodation. This year 14,966 people - including 4,645 children in 2,161 families will spend Christmas in emergency accommodation. Heartbreakingly, almost 380 families in Ireland are facing their second, and in some cases, third and fourth Christmas experiencing homelessness.

GARDAI have arrested a man on suspicion of drink driving after spotting a battered car without its front tyre on the road. The car was being driven through the town of Midleton in Co Cork when gardai spotted it. The car was seen in an "extensively damaged" state with the front tyre missing from the vehicle. After Gardai stopped the car, the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

THOUSANDS of Irish people might be missing out on up to €110 on their state pension, it has been reported. Irish people who have reached pension age and continue to work may be entitled to over €110 per week in tax. Pension age in Ireland is aged 66 or over and those who continue to work could be missing out on extra cash. Claire Murphy, a qualified tax adviser with Irish Tax Rebates explained that continuing to work at a higher rate will result in extra tax.

TRIBUTES have poured in for a Dublin mum who was battling Motor Neuron Disease (MND) after her family shared the heartbreaking update of her passing. Susan Fulham, who was originally from Artane in Co Dublin, had relocated to her "dream location" in Co Galway with her family in 2009. Susan was diagnosed with MND - a condition that progressively damages the nervous system - in recent years after overcoming cancer twice.

CHILD Benefit is a monthly payment that supports parents across Ireland in covering the costs of supporting their children. And yesterday marked the day over half a million Irish families received an extra cash boost with the Double Child Benefit payment. The €280 once-off double child payment was issued to 676,000 families with over 1.27million children set to benefit from the extra cash boost. The payment was automatically dished out and people do not need to apply.
