SEATTLE — On a sunny, 60-degree day in March, a spring awakening was taking place on the University of Washington (UW) campus. Not just the famous cherry blossoms in the quad, but one of the school's most successful sports teams was re-emerging from its offseason slumber. "I can think back maybe one or two times that I felt this new," said Heather Tarr, UW softball head coach. "One was my first season as a head coach - 2005.

SEATTLE — As Washington Husky boxers are in the lab perfecting their punches, Michelle Nguyen was in her science lab when she had the itch to pick up the mitts. "I guess the first kind of urge that I had to pursue boxing was, I read an article in my neurobiology class and this article was like, the older you get, the harder it is to learn martial arts," she said. "For me, I'm not really a negative type of guy. I don't want to beat guys up on the sidelines or have them thinking about things that they shouldn't," Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith said. "So, instead of me taking a negative approach, I take the positive approach.

SEATTLE — For the 116th time, Washington and Washington State will meet up in the Boeing Apple Cup, but this one will look a bit different. This heated rivalry will miss its distinct crispness in the air from its usual meeting in late November. It will be the first time since 1961 that the two teams will meet outside of a conference rivalry. It will also be the first time ever that these two teams will meet at a "neutral site," outside of any renovations to stadiums.
