There is basically no more surprise around this New York Rangers season as to whether they'll make the playoffs. By the time you read this, if that's late Friday night, the season could already be over. The Canadiens need a single point in their final four games to eliminate the Rangers, who also would be eliminated if they lose any of their final three games in any fashion. So, it's over.

ELMONT, N.Y. - The New York Rangers have already destroyed their own season. On Thursday, they took the New York Islanders down with them. The two New York teams have not really dignified themselves this year. We've catalogued it all, from the Rangers' 12-4-1 start to GM Chris Drury's "make me an offer" group text to one of the most miserable stretches of winter hockey the Rangers have played in a couple of decades. On the other side, the Islanders never got out of the starting gate.
