A free summer academic and enrichment program with a record of boosting student proficiency in English and math is nearing its Allen County debut, benefiting 1,500 children. Local school and community leaders formally announced the upcoming launch of Summer Learning Labs during a news conference Thursday at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne.

NEW HAVEN – East Allen County Schools leaders will continue next academic year to make the district's strategic plan a reality. Employees spearheading the guide's four priorities shared their progress with the school board Tuesday and outlined expectations for next academic year. The 10,000-student district unveiled the five-year plan last summer. EACS developed it with help from Education Elements, a K-12 education consulting firm involved in a similar effort at Northwest Allen County Schools.

NEW HAVEN – Students at three East Allen County schools may soon return to classrooms for a five-week summer program offered in partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne. The school board didn't hesitate Tuesday to approve a memorandum of understanding with the nonprofit about the Summer Learning Lab, an academic and enrichment program beginning June 16.

LEO-CEDARVILLE – The East Allen County Schools leader emphasized Monday that the groundbreaking of a 34,000-square-foot fieldhouse at Leo Junior-Senior High School symbolized more than the start of a construction project. "It's about the opportunities it will afford, and it will stand as a testament to our collective commitment to excellence in academics, athletics and arts," Superintendent Marilyn Hissong said moments before she and school board members grabbed hard hats and shovels.

An eighth grader’s artwork of an astronaut reading in a colorful galaxy will appear on the newest Allen County Public Library card distributed to Fort Wayne Community Schools students, a library news release said. Quinn Kilby of Jefferson Middle School was the winner of the ACPL Student Library Card design contest.
