(WANE) – After 72 regular season games the ECHL playoffs have finally arrived, with the Komets set to take on the Iowa Heartlanders in a best-of-seven first round series that starts Friday at War Memorial Coliseum. The Komets and Iowa played five times in the regular season, with Fort Wayne going 3-2 against the Heartlanders. However, all five games were played in Coralville, Iowa.

(WANE) – The Jackson family is making Hinkle Fieldhouse its new home, as twins Nevaeh and Saniya announced they are transferring to Butler University two weeks after older brother Jalen announced his move to play for the Bulldogs. Since graduating from Northrop, Nevaeh and Saniya have played the past two years at Valparaiso. A six-foot guard, Nevaeh averaged 13.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game this past season for the Beacons.

DAYTON, Ohio (WANE) – Fort Wayne Enmanuel Piñales out-pitched Cincinnati Reds no. 1 prospect Chase Burns on Friday night, as the TinCaps earned a 5-1 win at Day Air Ballpark in Dayton. Piñales threw five scoreless innings, striking out seven while yielding just one hit to earn the victory. Burns, the no. 2 overall pick in last summer’s MLB Draft, went 3.2 innings giving up two hits, two walks, and one earned run while striking out seven. Burns was tagged with the loss.

TOLEDO, Ohio (WANE) – Connor Ungar and Nathan Day combined to stop all 33 shots they faced on Friday night as Fort Wayne won its final road games of the regular season with a 3-0 win over the Toledo Walleye at the Huntington Center. Kyle Crnkovic scored his 14th goal of the season in the first period to give the Komets a 1-0 lead.
