LONE STAR, Texas (KETK)– The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF2 tornado tore through the city of Lone Star near the Ellison Creek Reservoir on Friday. The Mayor of Lonestar, Brianna McClain, has issued a mandatory curfew until Friday for damaged neighborhoods. City officials said 40-50 families are displaced because homes are toppled by trees and no power in the area. Bowie-Cass Electric Cooperative has crews continuing to work on restoring power to the hardest hit areas.

AUSTIN, Texas (KETK)– Joe Parrish was among ten other fallen volunteer firefighters honored for their sacrifice by the State Capitol. Parrish was a member of the Diboll Volunteer Fire Department in Angelina County. He was killed in an accident on the way to a car crash September 1, 2023. “We honor those that have given their all, we mourn for those that have given their all,” Chaplin of the association, Ben Kennedy said. Parrish had been a volunteer firefighter for 45 years.

TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Senate Bill 16, which was filed by East Texas State Sen. Bryan Hughes on March 11, requires proof of citizenship when registered to vote. The Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs passed the bill and now it will head to the full Senate chamber for discussion. “Senate Bill 16 says we’re going to require proof of citizenship when you register to vote,” Hughes, a Republican representing Mineola in the Texas State Senate, said.
