Tyler Film Festival releases its film lineup

TYLER, Texas (KETK) — The 2023 Tyler Film Festival is taking place for three days from Sept. 7 to 9 at Liberty Hall in downtown Tyler. Tickets are on sale on the Tyler Film Fest website and as well as on the Liberty Hall Tyler website. The selected films are no longer than 15 minutes and range in genres from comedy, drama, documentary to science fiction and more, according to the City of Tyler.

In 1997, country music singer Leann Rimes came to Tyler to record an album. At the rosewood studio, musicians and technicians worked hard to prepare the studio for the young star’s session.
Champions Drive to close for the morning due to asphalt resurfacing

LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) — Champions Drive in Lufkin will be closed Friday, Aug. 25 from 8 a.m. to noon from Crown Colony Drive to Columbia Court. The closing is due to an asphalt resurfacing by the City of Lufkin Street Department. “CenterPoint Energy repaired a gas leak in the area today which caused that section of roadway to be closed. As of 3 p.m. today, Champions Drive reopened with a temporary, rock-based surface. We ask drivers to proceed with caution,” said the City of Lufkin.

LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) — The 74th Gregg County fair is on its way to Longview from Sept. 8 to Sept. 16 at the Gregg County fair grounds. This year, there’s a carnival, petting zoo and live music every day. Emerson Farm will have their pig races, and there will also be booths for shopping. The classic turkey legs and funnel cakes will be available in addition to other delicious items. There will also be the Miss Gregg County Fair competition, which will crown a winner as queen.

E-BIKES ALLOWED ON PUBLIC PARKS AND TRAILS On Wednesday, Aug. 23, the Tyler City Council amended an ordinance to allow e-bikes on public parks and trails. The ordinance was updated to make sure that Tyler’s recreational areas are inclusive, according to the City of Tyler.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KETK) — After months of searching, the City Council of Nacogdoches will be hiring Rick Beverlin as they have made their final decision on who will take the office of city manager. “We’re extremely happy to have hired as quality a candidate as Rick Beverlin to be the next City Manager of Nacogdoches,” Mayor Randy Johnson said. “We are pleased to announce that we’ve agreed on and executed a contract with Rick and he will join us on or before November 2nd.
Texas Workforce Commission presents awards at Angelina College

LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) — Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Chairman Bryan Daniel presented multiple ceremonial checks at Angelina College on Wednesday, Aug. 23. According to Angelina College, TWC has awarded nine Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants to support career training at five educational institutions across Southeast Texas. Angelina College received a $348,843 grant to purchase and install equipment to train 76 students as electricians.

Former Smith County constable's deputy found not guilty against accusations of theft

TYLER, Texas (KETK) — Former Smith County deputy constable Derrick Pernell Holman of Jacksonville has been found not guilty of theft by a Smith County jury. In 2021, Holman was originally charged with theft, abuse of official capacity and official oppression along with Constable Curtis Traylor-Harris and Chief Deputy LaQuenda Banks who were all accused of stealing cash, electronics, jewelry and more from a property while at work.
