LONE STAR, Texas (KETK)- The cleanup work continues after Friday’s EF-2 tornado in the city of Lone Star, but while neighborhoods are recovering, the city council is warning residents about potential scammers. Homeowner Richard Jirka has lived in the area for several years. When he started to clean up the downed trees around his house, he said someone approached him about tree removal. “He didn’t have a business card at the time, so I just let him get his spiel,” Jirka said.

HAWKINS, Texas (KETK)- The National Weather Service said damage from a single EF-1 tornado has caused damage in two counties. The twister tore through Wood and Upshur counties at around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. It was on the ground for about 30 minutes, enough to cause a path of severe destruction nearly 20 miles long from Hawkins to the west side of Lake Gilmer. “I could see it spiraling up in the sky,” Hawkins resident Hunter Trew said.

TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Storms that ripped through the area on Friday night left severe damage and flooding all across East Texas. The City of Lindale had water overflowing into parts of downtown and multiple county roads. “The drains get to a point where they can’t take in anymore water,” Lindale Candy Company owner, Jeremiah Cagle said. Lindale Candy Company’s building experienced flooding and closed their candy viewing area due to the extensive water in the back of the store.

RUSK COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – West Rusk parents who drop their children off every morning at the elementary school said they are concerned with the current conditions. Some of the problems include leaks, aging floor, mold and have termite damage in their classrooms and windows that leak during rain. “My daughter cannot run in the gym in certain spots because the floors buckled up so high and kids will trip and fall,” concerned parent Nathan Bishop said.
