EVERETT — A man was hospitalized with burns early Friday after an apartment fire in Everett’s Pinehurst neighborhood. Around 2 a.m., fire crews responded to a blaze behind a mini mart store at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Euclid Avenue, the Everett Fire Department said. The man tried to extinguish the fire himself and rescue his dog before firefighters found him outside, the release said.

EVERETT — Closing statements began Thursday in the fourth and final trial of Christian Sayre, a former Everett bar owner accused of drugging and sexually assaulting multiple women over nearly a decade. The trial, which began Monday before a 12-person jury, was scheduled for two weeks. The charges against Sayre stem from allegations by four women, two of whom said they met Sayre at the Anchor Pub, the now-defunct Everett bar he owned.

Around 2:30 p.m., Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Millie Judge gave the jury its instructions on how to reach a verdict. Jurors were instructed to evaluate each charge independently and not let their verdict on one count influence another.

EVERETT — Family, classmates and community members are mourning the death of a 13-year-old boy who died Monday after colliding with a braided cable while riding his electric bicycle in south Everett. Around 4:30 p.m. Friday, Emiliano “Emi” Munoz was heading south on 5th Avenue West when he struck a cable strung between a fence post and a traffic bollard across a lot near the 8800 block, according to the Everett Police Department.
