Legal Aid announces there will be a free walk-in clinic for low-income residents from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Montgomery Elsner & Pardieck law office, 308 W. Second St., Seymour. The Legal Aid Clinic and Pro Bono Program uses local volunteer attorneys, offering free legal consultations for the provision of legal advice and assistance in furtherance of equal access to justice within our community who might not otherwise be able to afford the counsel of an attorney, according to a news release.

Indiana Department of Transportation maintenance crews plan to begin chip seal operations on U.S. 31 in Jackson and Scott counties on or after Thursday. Crews will be active on U.S. 31 between West Booe Road located just over 1.5 miles north of State Road 256 in Austin and the U.S. 31 overpass over Interstate 65 located approximately 3.8 miles north of Uniontown in Jackson County. Motorists should expect lane closures and flagging operations while work is in progress.

Indiana University Southeast and 12 area high schools including Seymour have partnered to offer guaranteed college admission through a new admissions pathway. The initiative will take effect for students who will be high school seniors in fall 2025. Under the seamless admission agreement, all senior-level students at participating high schools will be eligible for direct admission if they have a 2.0 GPA or higher and are on track to earn an Indiana Core 40 diploma or equivalent or higher.

The 11 members of the Medora High School Class of 2025 completed one journey Friday and started another one that only they can decide how it will end. Valedictorian Brelee Underwood delivered that message to her classmates during her address which was part of the school’s 125th commencement ceremony Friday evening in the school gymnasium. “Looking toward the future, I hope that everyone becomes successful and finds the happiness that we all deserve,” she said.

Gamma Tau Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Women Educators met May 20 at Central Christian Church in Seymour, with 25 members in attendance. The tables were decorated in a beach theme with votive candles in glass containers with sand and a ribbon. Lois Gueder gave the invocation. Following dinner, President Janice Brock welcomed the members and thanked the committee of Nancy Fleming, Marcia Culbreth, Lois Gueder and Rose Miller.
