Expected to open in late summer 2026, the Teejop Community History Public Art Project will include five Madison stops chosen for their historical significance.     The Madison City Council stripped a Far East Side blues club of its liquor license Tuesday, six months after the bar’s manager was charged with causing a fatal crash after he was seen drinking at work. In a unanimous vote, the council upheld last week’s recommendation by the Alcohol License Review Committee not to renew the Red Rooster’s liquor license. The bar at 2513 Seiferth Road opened in 2022 at the site of the former Knuckle Down Saloon by members of the Mannish Boys band.

    Dane County residents will soon be able to compost food scraps for free at a number of drop-off sites throughout the county. Starting Sunday, food waste can be taken to two locations in Madison and three others in the county, including in Middleton and McFarland. Another stop will be added to the Verona area later this summer. While residents could already bring their food waste to the Dane County Landfill during operating hours, the new drop-off sites will be accessible 24 hours per day.

    The union representing striking UnityPoint Health-Meriter Hospital nurses reported "modest progress" in contract talks Thursday and said the two sides were continuing to talk Friday, one day before their five-day walkout was due to end. “We're seeing some movement at the table — management has made modest progress on security and minimal movement on staffing," the union said in a statement late Thursday. "While it's a start, it’s not enough.
