The new director of the Dane County Regional Airport has more than 20 years’ experience working at airports around the country, most recently in Duluth, Minnesota, and is returning to the airport where he interned in 2013. Mark Papko is set to be approved by the Airport Commission on Wednesday. He replaces Kim Jones, who retired last month after an internal investigation raised questions about her performance. She assumed the post in 2018.

Mendota County Park on the northwest corner of Lake Mendota has been closed for the summer while crews install a new shelter and playground and make improvements to the beach, restrooms, boat launch and campground. The park, located off Highway M in the town of Westport will stay closed until construction is complete in late September, according to the Dane County Land and Water Resources Department.

Chippewa Falls students are learning advanced ways to grow food indoors, and the produce is being used to help provide fresh vegetables to the school kitchens. “We’re calling it our Farm-to-School Program. We are farm-raising products, hydroponically and aquaponically and then everything we produce in here, if my students in class don't munch on it, then it goes to the school kitchen,” ag science teacher Jeanna Burgan said.

The city of Madison will host five meetings in June where residents can share ideas, concerns and priorities for the 2026 budget. Each of the meetings will focus on a key area of service: public works, city administration and facilities, public safety, transportation, and community and economic development. At each of the public meetings, Finance Director Dave Schmiedicke will update residents about the city’s finances, while other officials will be on hand to discuss the services they provide.
