Jessica Mudgett, executive director of the Chippewa County Housing Authority, has submitted her resignation. Her last day will be at the end of April. Heather Martell, chair of the Housing Authority's board of directors, stepped down from her role Tuesday, citing concerns about what she says is a lack of protection for the board while it conducts investigations into department employees such as Mudgett.

CHIPPEWA FALLS MAYORWhen Greg Hoff man took over as mayor, Chippewa Falls was in rough financial shape. During his 17 years as its top off cial, the city found firm fiscal ground. Now Hoff man, 74, has retired, but not before passing the baton of city leadership to 59-year-old Jason Hiess, whom Hoff man says has his full confidence. Hiess was sworn in as mayor of Chippewa Falls on Tuesday night at City Hall.

A Bloomer man died Monday after a collision with a vehicle while riding his UTV to pick up mail. The name of the man has not been released, but Chippewa County Sheriff Travis Hakes said the victim was 97 years old. Hakes told The Chippewa Herald the elderly man drove his UTV to his mailbox in the 13400 block of County Highway Q, around 1:30 p.m. He was driving the UTV across the road in the rural area when he collided with a passing vehicle.

A second Eau Claire Democrat has announced she will seek to unseat U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden in the 3rd Congressional District in 2026. Eau Claire City Council President Emily Berge filed paperwork Friday to run for Congress. The Chippewa Herald reached out Monday to Berge but did not immediately receive a response. According to the city's website, Berge serves on the Advisory Committee on Appointments, the City Manager Evaluation Committee and the Chippewa St. Croix Rail Commission.
