NEW CARLISLE ― On the surface, it was a normal varsity baseball game Saturday, May 10, between New Prairie and Hanover Central. The sun was shining. There were hardly any clouds in the sky. The temperature was a perfect 66 degrees. New Prairie went through its warmup first, then Hanover Central. The national anthem was played. A back-and-forth game ensued until Hanover put up a 12-spot in the top of the fourth inning, leading to a 15-4 Wildcats victory.

SOUTH BEND ― Kohl Franklin arrived in South Bend at 11 p.m. Monday, May 5. By 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, he was pitching in a game for the South Bend Cubs, the high-A minor league affiliate for MLB's Chicago Cubs. Despite his body still adjusting from being in Arizona's Pacific time zone to Indiana's Eastern one ― “basically an 8 a.m. game for me,” Franklin admitted ― there was no place he would rather be in that moment.

Bremen High School alumnus and former John Glenn head coach Justin Bogunia is returning to his alma mater as the new head football coach. Bogunia boasts an impressive coaching record, including a 101-67 run at John Glenn and two sectional titles. He replaces Jordan Leeper, who resigned in March due to health concerns. When home calls, it’s hard to ignore it. That was the case for Justin Bogunia, who is set to become the new Bremen High School football head coach.

SOUTH BEND ― Chase Konieczny admits he was too young to remember when Florida Gulf Coast took over the 2013 NCAA Tournament, reaching the Sweet 16 as a No. 15 seed behind its “Dunk City” mantra. He’s well aware of the history now, as the South Bend Saint Joseph senior announced his commitment to the school Tuesday, May 6. “Florida Gulf Coast, it’s a really cool spot,” Konieczny said. “I went on an official visit there and met all the coaches in person.
