MIDDLEBURY ― Brayden Miller sank a short birdie putt. With it ended one of the best nine-hole scores a golfer can achieve: 29. Seven birdies, two pars, just 11 total putts. If the defending IHSAA boys golf state champion was trying to send a message in his season opener Monday, consider it received. Miller finished at 7:15 p.m. The sun was setting over Meadow Valley Golf Course, but still light enough to where maybe, just maybe, Miller could play the back nine.

The youth movement of the South Bend area girls track scene looks like it will continue this season. Of the three area competitors to place at the IHSAA state finals last year, just one returns in Goshen junior Kristina Petkova. The majority of the athletes to make state return this year, though, putting themselves in position to achieve even more success this spring. Here are some top girls track names to keep an eye on from the South Bend area for the 2025 campaign.
