HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Holmes County residents, law enforcement, and emergency services are picking up the pieces after a tornado tore through the county on Saturday. {RELATED: Holmes County Sheriff speaks on widespread tornado damage}We are told the tornado damaged around 30 homes and businesses. Holmes County Sheriff John Tate said one person was injured but is recovering. The sheriff also added that at one point, 6,000 Holmes County residents were without power.

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Flag football in the south is a way of life. Now, female student-athletes in Bay District Schools can participate in all of the tradition and pageantry. On Friday, BDS announced that girls’ flag football will officially be offered at four of their schools for the 2026 spring season. Arnold, Bozeman, Rutherford, and Mosley will participate. The district says that each team will have up to 30 spots for its female student-athletes.

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The smell of fresh barbecue filled the air in Downtown Panama City on Friday as Manuel & Thompson hosted its 20th Annual Law Week Cookout. President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day in 1958. It is meant to celebrate the rule of law, and the idea that laws in the United States apply to everyone equally. Law Day also promotes a deeper understanding of the legal system.

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Those involved with Naval Support Activity Panama City’s purchase of 8.44 acres of land next to their current installation say it’s been a long time coming. “The property is great for the encroachment and line of sight for the base, but also for the base to be able to grow and continue to provide services,” said Jessica Pfefferkorn, former Commanding Officer of NSA Panama City. Bay County originally purchased the land adjacent to NSA Panama City in May 2010.

Grey Dodge was the featured speaker at the Bay Economic Development Alliance meeting on Wednesday. He represented FSU’s InSPIRE Initiative. FSU InSPIRE is aimed at fostering innovation and economic growth in Northwest Florida. It focuses on high-speed aerodynamics, advanced manufacturing, and STEM education.
