(WBNG) -- When she is not busy with her school work, you can find Baillié McCall on duty at the Truxton Fire Department. “Baillié’s been awesome,” said Second Assistant Chief Darwin Smith. “Ever since she’s joined, she’s shown great initiative toward everything that we’ve tasked her with. She’s always there, she’s a go-getter.”The go-getter attitude stood out to firefighter associations at both the county and state levels. Recently, Baillié won the Dan Newton scholarship.

(WBNG) -- ,It’s named after beloved Theodore Roosevelt Elementary Principal David Chilson. “I wasn’t exactly sure what scholarship I had gotten, but when they told me, I freaked out,” said Johnson. That’s because Johnson and Chilson go way back. “I obviously know Mr. Chilson really well,” she said. “I went to Theodore Roosevelt Elementary. My mom really loved him. Everyone at the school loves him because he cares so much about all of his students.” The feeling is mutual.

NORWICH, N.Y. (WBNG) -- The Trump Administration’s possible elimination of the Community Development Block Grant is sounding the alarm for local municipalities. The Chenango County Planning Department has been using this federal grant fund for decades. They’ve used it to fund various programs, including broadband expansion, the First Time Homebuyers Program and more. About $10 million of CDBG funds were allocated to renovate the Red Mill Apartments in New Berlin to address the housing crisis.
