Thursday, family of Patrick Lyoya spoke out for the first time since Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker's decision to not retry former Grand Rapids police officer, Christopher Schurr. Schurr was charged with shooting and killing Lyoya during a traffic stop in April 2022 on the southeast side of Grand Rapids following a struggle over Schurr's taser. During a press conference Thursday, Lyoya's parents, Peter and Dorcas, expressed their heartbreak in Becker's decision to not retry Schurr.
