    BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Panama City Beach Council members are investing some city money in new firefighting gear. They will soon receive 53 sets of new bunker gear. That includes coats, pants, boots, gloves, and helmets. At $5,500 a set, the city is spending almost $300,000. The new bunker gear will help the city meet the National Fire Protection Association Code. They have ordered some extra sets, so no one will go without them when some of the other sets are being cleaned.

    JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Cottondale police is instituting a new program to serve senior citizens. They are issuing decals for senior citizens to place in their homes, identifying them as seniors. Officers will perform either calls or daily welfare checks for anyone with the decal. Cottondale’s population is around 900 people. A large majority of them are senior citizens. Many of them are home alone for long periods of time.

    BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – On Tuesday, Billy Joe ‘Hoot’ Crawford finally learned his sentence after being found guilty of witness tampering and interfering with child custody. The case started in May of 2022. Crawford attended a meeting with his client, a 16-year-old girl, her parents, investigators with the Florida Department of Children and Families, and staff at the Children’s Advocacy Center. Investigators and the CAC wanted to question the girl alone.

    BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Springfield police are warning their residents about an old scam that is still taking advantage of the unsuspecting. Only this time they say they caught the scammer. According to officials, 61-year-old Antonio Brown called a Springfield resident Thursday, telling them they won $850,000 and a new car from the Publisher’s Clearinghouse Sweepstakes. Brown allegedly told the victim he needed $800 for the taxes and would be at their house in an hour to collect it.
