At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, investigators observed a suspicious vehicle leaving a location known for illegal narcotics activity.

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Gaston County has confirmed the county’s sixth rabies case of 2025. On Wednesday, May 7, Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement received a call in reference to a dog that had killed a skunk in Bessemer City. The dog had an expired rabies vaccination, but received a booster shot by the family veterinarian shortly after the incident. There was no human contact with the skunk.

STATESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Statesville Police Department is investigating a fatal collision that occurred early Friday morning on Davie Avenue. At approximately 6 a.m. on Friday, May 9, emergency personnel responded to a traffic incident involving a 2024 Volkswagen and an electric scooter. According to the preliminary investigation, Matthew Miller, 39, of Lenoir, was driving the Volkswagen when the collision with the scooter occurred.

SHELBY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — PPG will invest $380 million to establish a new manufacturing center in Cleveland County, marking the return of the PPG brand name to Shelby, where the company first established a facility in the 1950s. This move will create 110 new jobs in the City of Shelby. “PPG knows what I know: North Carolina is the #1 state for manufacturing in the Southeast,” said Governor Josh Stein.
