South Texas Comic Con kicked off Friday at the McAllen Convention Center. Channel 5 News' Bella Michaels spoke with 501st Legion, a world-wide costuming organization that represents the Star Wars genre. The group was at comic con raising funds for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Also in attendance at the event was Elsa native Valiente Rodriguez, a comedian known for his role as Ernie in the George Lopez Show. South Texas Comic Con will run through Sunday. Custodians at Sharyland Pioneer High School now have a new, paved walkway to take out the trash on campus. It's all thanks to a group of architecture and construction students. As custodians at Sharyland Pioneer, Mike Ortiz and Manuel said it's always been a struggle to take the trash out on campus since there was no directly paved path to the trash bins. Some students began to notice. “We felt bad for ‘em,” student Eduardo Estrada said.

A four-vehicle crash that hospitalized seven people on Wednesday stemmed from a police chase, according to San Juan Police Chief Leandro Sifuentes. Police were after a suspect accused of assaulting a woman and stealing her vehicle, Sifuentes said. The suspect remain at large, Sifuentes added. Officers with the San Juan Police Department responded to an assault in progress at the parking lot of a McDonald’s located at 3701 N. Raul Longoria Road, according to Sifuentes.
