MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Aaron Branch was asked to identify himself by a Memphis Police Department Major in October 2023. Branch had his food truck parked along a street and was told he was in a no parking zone. Despite the lack of signs saying no parking, Branch said he would move the vehicle. The MPD major said he needed to identify himself and if he got into the vehicle, he would be immediately pulled over and ultimately forced to identify.

Zeanah's role will serve to bring alignment and oversight to four departments, Planning and Development, Engineering, Housing and Community Development, and Public Works. Zeanah will also have oversight over community and economic development agencies associated with the City of Memphis.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Tennessee Supreme Court has declined to hear two appeals in the Janet Doe versus the City of Memphis lawsuit concerning the rape kit backlog. The ruling comes after the Tennessee Court of Appeals reversed a Shelby County Circuit Court ruling allowed victims to sue the city despite statute of limitations from their sexual assaults, as well as reversing the ability for the case to proceed as a class action lawsuit.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Tennessee Court of Appeals has ruled in favor of the City of Memphis in the civil lawsuit filed on behalf of Alicia Franklin. Franklin sued the City of Memphis, saying it failed to thoroughly investigate the sexual assault complaint she made against Cleotha Abston Henderson, a man later accused of killing Eliza Fletcher. The decision comes more than a year after appellate court judges heard oral arguments in February 2024.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Jury selection for the state trial of former Memphis Police Department officers charged in Tyre Nichols death began in Hamilton County Wednesday. A spokesperson for Hamilton County District Attorney Coty Wamp told ABC24 that jury selection began Wednesday morning, as the state trial against the former SCORPION unit officers is set to begin Monday, April 28.
