MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - May is Ocular Melanoma Awareness Month to bring more attention to a rare type of cancer that develops in the eye. It’s so rare, it only occurs in about 6 of every 1 million people a year. Because treatments are so specialized, nearly every person who is diagnosed is forced to travel to get care, which can be a huge financial burden on families. The Eye on Grace Foundation was founded by an ocular melanoma patient to help people find treatment and travel for treatment.
