In an effort to build on the success of it’s first year, the Legacy Golf Championship is working to be more of an impactful experience in its second year. Organizers say this is more than a tournament, it’s a platform for young golfers to showcase their talent, grow in character, and build a future in the sport.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Thursday is Military Appreciation Day at the Montgomery Zoo. All military members and their families receive free full-access admission to the Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum. The day will also include complimentary lunch, refreshments, and a free train ride for all honored guests. Every year, about 2,000 members of the military and their families come out to the Zoo for this big day.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The increase in temperatures for the summer also brings an increase in drownings, and you may be surprised by who is drowning in the water. Adult drownings are increasing across the country. Numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show adults account for about 70% of drowning victims, even though most drowning prevention education focuses on children. Experts say many people just don’t realize how quickly and quietly a drowning can happen.

The Alabama Black Belt Adventures Association launched its 2nd annual Black Belt Road Trip Photo contest and is now accepting entries. “This contest, only in its second year, is designed to celebrate and highlight the unique experiences available in Alabama’s Black Belt,” ALBBAA Director Pam Swanner said.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - A brand new neighborhood officially breaks ground Wednesday in east Montgomery. “Hawthorne” sits along Atlanta Highway, adjacent to the Arrowhead neighborhood. Once it’s complete, it will hold 250 homes with built with the theme, “A New Chapter of Timeless Living.” Those homes will range from 1,500 to 2,800 square feet with modern floorplans, and the neighborhood will include a thoughtfully designed walking trail.
