MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Thursday is “Great Gatsby Centennial Day” in Alabama. Gov. Kay Ivey will sign a proclamation honoring the 100th anniversary of the publishing release of the world famous novel, the author of which called Montgomery home. F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald lived in an Old Cloverdale home from October 1931 through April 1932, after “The Great Gatsby” was published. That home is now the only museum in the world dedicated to the Fitzgeralds.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - A group of college students from around the state plan to deliver a message to lawmakers Tuesday: cut taxes on parenting products and menstrual care. House Bill 152 would exempt baby products, baby formula, maternity clothes, and feminine hygiene products from state sales tax. Alabama is one of only 20 states in the country to charge sales tax for these items.

(WSFA) - The Council on Substance Abuse (COSA) has a new plan to address many problems impacting Montgomery youth, such as substance misuse, truancy, juvenile violence, teen pregnancy, low academic performance, and family issues. Its newly established TEEN Center officially opens Monday. The TEEN center is designed to be a safe place for teenagers and their families to have fun, and learn skills that will carry them into adulthood.

March 15 is the last day to turn in the GRCC’s Foundation Scholarship application for a chance to qualify for one of over 300 scholarships, totaling $1 million. Students are encouraged to apply for scholarships whether they are full-time, part-time, or somewhere in between. The application is free, easy and available to every student.
