With regionals taking place this week, there aren’t many more opportunities for athletes to get their names on the list of top performances in Livingston County or improve their status. Two individuals who have set themselves apart this spring are Brighton senior Sam Meriweather and Pinckney senior Madison Cooke. Meriweather leads the county in three individual events and is on two relays that have posted the fastest times. Cooke leads county girls in three events and is on a top-ranked relay.

Beating Hartland for the first time in nine years was a huge deal, but it didn’t guarantee Brighton its first KLAA boys lacrosse championship since 2015. HARTLAND — With his ace faltering, Hartland baseball coach Brad Guenther didn’t hesitate to bring in Logan Randall to get the Eagles out of a jam Monday against Howell. It didn’t matter that Randall hadn’t pitched since April 21 and had thrown only five innings all season. Injuries, not a lack of confidence in Randall by Hartland’s coaches, kept him off the mound for three weeks and out of the lineup entirely for 18 days.

I’m going to use this space leading into the Livingston Daily Athlete of the Week poll to give some props to everyone who helped stage the KLAA track and field meet Saturday at Hartland High School. I covered my first track and field meet in 1982. For most of the 43 years that have followed, there have been varying degrees of frustration trying to get results during a meet — and sometimes even after a meet.
