Michigan’s softball team pulled off a stunning run to a Big Ten Tournament title, winning it as the No. 8 seed. It knocked off the two top seeds in the process, Oregon and UCLA, and outscored opponents 14-4 over the four games. The championship secures a berth in the NCAA Tournament, where it will open in the Austin, Texas regional against UCF on Friday.

The Michigan women’s basketball team will face a former Wolverine, and potentially the defending national champion, in a tournament next season. The Wolverines are part of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase, per Tuesday’s announcement. Michigan will play Syracuse on Nov. 21, the Friday before Thanksgiving, at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The other matchup that day features Connecticut, the reigning champ, and Utah.

Yaxel Lendeborg remains undecided about whether to play at Michigan or in the NBA next season. If he plays college basketball, it will be for Michigan. He transferred there from UAB last month. The 6-foot-9 forward is currently in Chicago for the NBA draft combine, where he spoke to the Big Ten Network’s Andy Katz about where he stands. “Man, I am more in between than I can be, to be honest,” Lendeborg said in an edited video clip posted online on Monday night. “I took the visit to Michigan.

Jon Sanderson is returning to the Midwest. The former Michigan men’s basketball strength and conditioning coach accepted the same position at Notre Dame, the program announced on Friday. Sanderson spent 15 years at Michigan, working for head coaches John Beilein and Juwan Howard. Sanderson resigned from Michigan on March 1, 2024, the end result of a dispute with Howard that took place a few months prior. Sanderson was hired later that month at Illinois as a consultant.

ANN ARBOR — Julia Fliegner lied down on the center court at the Varsity Tennis Center, exhausted, relieved, and thrilled to be done with her singles match. Michigan’s season hinged on the result, and the team’s lone senior came through. Fliegner’s win, in a third-set tiebreaker, propelled Michigan to a 4-3 comeback win over Texas on Saturday and a spot in the Elite Eight for the third straight year.
