Wheeler represents New Mexico’s Sixth Judicial District, which covers Grant, Hidalgo and Luna counties.

Although charges have not been released to the Deming Headlight by either Deming police or the State Police, KRQE News 13 reported Friday that the charges are of a violent and sexual nature.

After three months of negotiation, the Luna County Board of Commissioners approved a $7 million settlement with Hernandez on Thursday during the commission’s regular monthly meeting.

Voter participation was better than average in Luna County in 2024, with a total of 8.075 ballots cast, according to the Luna County Clerk’s Office on Tuesday evening. That’s a 58 percent voter turnout. Luna County Clerk Berenda McWright noted that ballots which must be hand-counted are not included in these unofficial results. New Mexico also came out to vote statewide, with 54.75 percent of registered voters casting ballots.

Every now and then, Deming police would check in with Madrid, who occasionally was involved in petty offenses or public misconduct. While on patrol, Deming police patrolman James Fetrow would occasionally give Madrid a ride home for his own safety.

The esteemed supporter of rural living and agricultural industry passed away peacefully in her home last week at the age of 92. Services for the longtime Deming resident were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, 1020 S. Granite St. Her final interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery in Deming.

Condolences are coming in from politicians and constituents all across the state and our nation’s capital. Sen. Smith served in the New Mexico Senate from 1989 to 2021.

Deming residents near the 900 block of S. Silver Street were awakened Monday morning by a loud boom that shook windows, rattled pets and was followed by a cloud of smoke. Deming police confirmed that a bomb detonated at about 7:30 a.m. at the New Mexico Probation and Corrections Building, located at 920 S. Silver St. The explosion was loud enough to have been heard off of Santa Catalina Street on Deming’s east side, and as far east as Pear Street.
