HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Harlingen’s Alana Rouquette signed her letter of intent to continue her track and field career at Stephen F. Austin. Rouquette joined the recent list of Harlingen girls track and field athletes to commit to the Division I level, which includes Jazmine Thompson (Wake Forest) and Faith Franklin (Vanderbilt). Alana not only earned an athletic scholarship, but also an academic one.

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Last year’s one-point loss at the state meet left a bad taste in the mouth of the Edcouch-Elsa girls powerlifting program. At Bert Ogden Arena, the Yellow Jackets redeemed themselves by winning the Class 5A DII Texas High School Association Women’s Powerlifters Championship. It was the program’s fourth state title in the last five years.

MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men’s golf team picked up wins against Nicholls State and East Texas A&M in the South Texas Match Play to advance to the finals. The Vaqueros began the day strong at the McAllen Country Club, defeating the Colonels 5-0. As a team, UTRGV combined for 21 birdies, three eagles, and just three bogeys in the match. Fifth year senior Taj Sutherland defeated James Bould 5&3.

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — It was another first for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley football program as it kicked off its spring practice schedule. Today marked the first of 15 practices the Vaqueros will have until April 17 and the intensity was cranked up a notch in comparison to the Fall session.
