CBS 4 and NBC 23 are television stations located in the Harlingen-Weslaco-McAllen DMA, which covers the entire Rio Grande Valley region in South Texas. These stations are operated by Nexstar Media Group. NBC 23 started broadcasting in December 1981 and launched its digital TV signal in 2005. It resumed local news programming in October 2007. The CBS affiliate, which began operations on January 28, 2020, has the distinction of being the first television station to broadcast in the Rio Grande Valley, with its inaugural transmission occurring in October 1953.
