A new plan for the Casseday House stalled this week. The Joliet City Council on Tuesday tabled a vote to lease the city-owned land on which the house sits to Luther Johnson, who wants to convert the 19th Century limestone house into a museum devoted to the contributions of local African Americans in the U.S. military.

Attendees at the Huntley Fall Fest every year might enjoy listening to the bands, making scarecrows or a number of other activities. “You can come to the entire event for free,” said Claudine Cutrona, one of the organizers of the annual event. While many activities are free, some of the profits from the festival also go to help McHenry County nonprofits. Some of the charities are based in Huntley, but others are based in surrounding communities.

The 2023 IHSA Girls Swimming & Diving State Meet will be held Friday and Saturday at the FMC Natatorium in Westmont. This year, the Sauk Valley area will be represented by Sterling junior Madison Austin and a quintet of qualifiers from the Byron co-op. Austin heads to state for the second straight year. Last year, she placed 18th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.35 seconds, missing the Day 2 cut by .17 seconds.

Five Herald-News area boys soccer players were named All State by the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association, while many others were also honored in the year-end awards. Lemont’s Tyler Chrisman, Bolingbrook’s Aaron Palacios-Chaves, Romeoville’s Isaiah Pina, Lincoln-Way Central’s John Roussakis and Plainfield Central’s Marshall DeGraff were chosen as All-State selections. Chrisman, a junior midfielder, had six goals and 12 assists for Lemont (8-9-4).

A Chicago man has been accused of stealing approximately $1,700 worth of merchandise from an Oak Brook Terrace Home Depot store. Pre-trial release was denied Wednesday for Timothy Wehmeyer, 42, of the 5100 block of Mayfield Avenue, who was charged with charged with one count of burglary, one count of retail theft and one count of misdemeanor obstructing identification, according to a DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office news release.
