The Williston softball team jumped together in the infield. Some cried. They posed for a team photo. They dropped a bucket of Powerade on coach Jesse Stundal. For a team that had never been to the state tournament, Williston knew exactly how it's done. Alana Thomas pitched a complete-game, three-hitter and struck out nine. Her defense was perfect behind her.

    GRAND FORKS — There were no major upsets on Day 1 of the North Dakota state girls individual tennis tournament at Choice Health and Fitness. The top seeds are through to Saturday's semifinal. Dickinson's Shayna Klitzke, the West Region's No. 1 singles seed, won a pair of matches in straight sets over Grand Forks Red River's Naomi Rahman and Valley City's Georgia Zaun to get to the semifinals. Klitzke is looking to become Dickinson's first state champion.
