WAUSAU, WI — Concerts on the Square is back again! Wausau Events is set to launch the 2025 Concerts on the Square series. This annual event takes place every Wednesday from 6-8 PM on the 400 Block in Downtown Wausau. The first show of the season will take place this evening, and will feature local favorite Rising Phoenix. Attendees can enjoy free live music, food vendors, and community spirit.
WPS peregrine falcons receive names, bands

WESTON, Wis. — The newest peregrine falcon chicks at Wisconsin Public Service's (WPS) Weston Power Plant have been named. This week, WPS placed identification bands on the chicks, celebrating their legacy. The chicks were named Flaps, Lee, and Hercules after legendary peregrine falcons that contributed significantly to the WPS and We Energies peregrine falcon recovery program - some of the program's "founding feathers".
Hodag Dome reopens after two month closure

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WAOW) -- After two long months, the Hodag Dome has finally reopened to the public. The dome was damaged when an ice storm knocked out power at the end of March, and a backup generator failed to start up. This caused the dome to deflate, causing the roof to tear and damaging some features on the interior. But as of June 3, the dome is back open for business.

After an absolutely gorgeous weekend, we'll see our temperatures climb a little bit higher to start the week. In fact, for some of us, Monday will be the warmest day of the year so far. WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) -- If you've looked outside and it seems a bit gloomy today, you aren't imagining things. Wildfire smoke from western Canada is starting to make its way into the Badger state, and it will probably get worse before it gets better. Northwest winds will push that smoke into the upper levels of the atmosphere during the morning hours, and then a cold front passing through the area this afternoon and evening will carry that smoke down to the surface.

Fire destroys house in St. Germain

ST. GERMAIN, Wis. (WAOW) -- A house has been deemed a total loss after a house fire Tuesday evening. According to the Vilas County Sheriff's office, police took a 911 call from a resident at 8149 Greenwood Drive in the town of St. Germain a little after 9:30 in the evening for a report of a garage fire. All of the occupants of the house were able to get out safely, and no injuries were reported. However, due to excessive fire damage, the house was considered a total loss.
Wausau Community Theater putting on Anastasia: The Musical

They'll be performing the show several times over the next two weekends at the Veninga Theater on the UWSP Wausau campus. Wausau woman arrested for 7th OWI

WAUSAU, Wis. — A Wausau woman has been arrested for her seventh operating while intoxicated offense. Tyquaniesha Bell, 28, was taken into custody by the Wisconsin State Patrol DeForest Post on May 29, 2025 in the early morning hours. According to a release from the State Patrol, Bell was driving a maroon SUV with two children under 16 when she was stopped on Interstate 90/94 at milepost 92 - in Sauk County near Wisconsin Dells.
Man tries to set Wisconsin River paddling speed record

This record, set in 1995, has stood unchallenged for three decades. Nevitt, who holds the solo paddle record on the Wisconsin River, will attempt to beat the overall record of 4 days, 2 hours, and 22 minutes set by Mike Schnitzka and Bill Perdzock.
