Despite the ups and downs of this track and field season, Gallatin junior Isabella Donaghey is grateful to be in this position. Shortly before the 2025 track season began in March, Donaghey’s friend, 2024 Gallatin graduate Jace Thompson, took his own life. Thompson’s memorial also coincided with the season-opening track meet on March 28 in Belgrade. That weighed on Donaghey emotionally, given Thompson was someone she considered to be like an older brother.

Morgan Jones didn’t think she was going to make it past her opening height of 5 feet in the girls high jump. Recently, Jones, a senior at Bozeman High, had moved her starting mark back to gain more speed on the approach. At the Last Chance Invite Friday in Belgrade, Jones had tried three different starting marks and wasn’t lining up with the bar. She still cleared 5-0 and her personal record 5-2, but missed her first two attempts at 5-4.
